Welcome!
Welcome to the website of the Leek Peace Choir. Our choir was formed in 2014 and was previously an integral part of the Peace Through Folk organisation. We have now branched out to “go it alone”, though we still have valuable support from Peace Through Folk. Our songs come mainly from the folk and protest song tradition but we do not allow ourselves to be limited by this. On these pages you will find information about us including our history and recent events. You may also like to view and listen to us in our photo gallery, sound files and video files.
Event News!
We are pleased to announce that the Leek Peace Choir has organised a Harmony Singing Workshop to be held on May 17th, 2025. The workshop will last from 2pm until 5pm with a short break for refreshments. Our Musical Director Lester Simpson (formerly of Coope, Boyes and Simpson) will lead the event. The workshop will take place in Trinity Church, Derby Street, Leek. Tickets are available from WeGotTickets at £5 each, or you can turn up and pay on the door (subject to availability). No singing experience is necessary neither is the ability to read music. Just come and enjoy singing!
The choir is based in Leek, Staffordshire and meets regularly for rehearsals.
We perform in concerts, folk festivals and other events – either alone or in the company of other like minded performers.
We welcome new choir members and no audition or ability to read music is required. We do need you to share our values and concern for Earth’s people and environment.
Woody Guthrie said “It's a folk singer's job to comfort disturbed people and to disturb comfortable people.” Singing, and making music is a great way for ordinary people to make a difference. And it’s a great way to spend time in good company. Singing has changed the world and can continue to do so.

The current diary is updated regularly. Practices take place on the first and third Thursday of each month, led by Penny Barfield. A monthly practice led by Lester Simpson takes place on one Sunday afternoon each month. All practices take place at the Friends' Meeting House in Leek.
